Summary
Workplace burnout has become a widespread problem in recent years, with enormous financial cost to organizations, and great personal cost to individuals.
Although burnout is a problem facing many industries—workers in healthcare and correctional or forensic environments may be at greater risk of professional burnout due to the unique hazards.
This interactive workshop will highlight the most common research-based factors associate with general workplace burnout, and also explore additional sources of burnout associated with correctional and forensic environments.
Participants will leave the workshop with practical tools to assess personal and team burnout. They will also create generate action steps they can take to prevent or reverse burnout in their own workplaces.

Parker Houston PsyD, ABPP, CPCC
Parker Houston is the Chief Psychologist for the IST Re-Evaluation Program in the Forensic Services Division at the California Department of State Hospitals. Dr. Houston has been in the correctional and forensic mental health field for 20+ years. He has held multiple senior executive positions with the state of California since 2015, overseeing some of the most complex and challenging correctional mental health programs in the state. He is a licensed psychologist and certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology in Organizational and Business Consulting Psychology. He is also certified as an Executive Coach.

Melinda DiCiro, PsyD ABPP
Melinda DiCiro is the Deputy Director of the Forensic Services Division at the California Department of State Hospitals, which oversees the Offenders with Mental Health Disorders (OMHD) and Sexually Violent Predator SVP) pre-commitment evaluation and the Virtual Competency Evaluation programs. She has been the Chief Psychologist for the OMD evaluation program in the Division. She was formerly the Clinical Director of Inpatient Treatment and Crisis Triage Unit and Positive Behavioral Support Team at California State Prison Sacramento. She also conducts forensic evaluations for the courts. She has peer-reviewed publications in the areas of forensic assessment and bias mitigation and presented on forensic assessment and leadership development at state and national conferences. She is certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology (Forensic). Before becoming a psychologist, she served as an artillery officer and trained as a China Foreign Area Officer in the US Army.
